This is not a cherry

Not actually, it's acerola!

This very small fruit coming from Brazil and resembling a cherry is renowned for its forte Vitamin C content. This water-soluble vitamin is not produced naturally by your body and must therefore be provided by the diet.

Rich in vitamin C

Alerola is part of the superfruits, naturally very rich in vitamin C:

  • 10x plus vitamin C than blackcurrant,
  • 25x more than kiwi,
  • 30x more than lemon.
Comparative Vitamin C content contained in fruits
 For 100g of whole fruit
Camu Camu from 2400 to 3000 mg
Acerola from 1000 to 2000 mg
Cassis 200 mg
Kiwi 80 mg
Lemon 65 mg
Papaya 60 mg
Orange from 55 to 60 mg

Only the Camu CamuAnother fruit that grows in the tropical forests of Peru, contains more.

Amerola & Food Supplements

All benefits of natural vitamin C

Alerola is often sold in the form of chewable tablets bringing you a high amount of vitamin C that promotes the normal functioning of your immunity, your normal energy metabolism, etc. (the roles of vitamin C are explained here).

2 scams

Some dietary supplements indicate on their "500 mg" or "1000 mg" box, suggesting that these contain that same amount of vitamin C, but not at all! Indeed, Alerola contains a lot of vitamin C, but it never contains 100%.

1 500 mg acerola tablet will contain about 20% vitamin C, or 100 mg vitamin C.

Moreover, some food supplements composed of acerola display high vitamin C content, but these contain a mixture of acerola (natural vitamin C) with vitamin C synthetic. Synthetic vitamin C is less interesting than natural vitamin C!

These 2 misleading processes are frequently used, hence the importance of reading the labels.
