Iodine
What is iodine, apart from a difficult word to spell?
Iodine is a chemical element that plays a key role in the proper functioning of our body, especially for the thyroid, this little gland forming a butterfly looking for its nectar. Discovered in the ashes of marine algae in 1811 by Bernard Courtois, a Frenchman who probably did not imagine finding a treasure in burning remains, iodine has become one of the most essential elements for our organization.
Why does your body scream "need iodine!" ?
The iodine is like the manager of your metabolism, making sure everything works perfectly. Without him, your thyroid would strike, leading to fatigue, weight gain, and a mood as variable as time in April.
Do you know the 6 benefits of iodine?
Above all known to promote normal thyroid function as well as normal production of thyroid hormones (T4 and T3), the iodine plays many other roles recognized by EFSA:
- Normal growth of children.
- Normal cognitive function (memory, concentration, reasoning)
- Normal energy metabolism (tonus, vitality)
- Normal operation of the nervous system (help in case of passenger stress)
- Maintaining a normal skin
Everyone needs it, and yet we miss frequently!
This oligo-element is suitable for children, adults, seniors, pregnant or lactating women, but our diet usually brings us too little!
Note, however, that iodine is not suitable for consumption in case of hashimoto disease or hyperthyroidism.
Food brings little iodine
Iodine is in very small quantities in floors in Belgium or France. This is why animal feeds are often enriched with iodine.
It is found mainly in seafood (120 μg / 100 g), crustaceans, algae as well as in the iodized salt (but not to abuse!) (380 μg / c).
To find out if your organization contains enough iodine, you can make it dosed in your urine, you might be surprised at the result.
