Vitamin B9 is mostly known as its non-active and synthetic form, folic acid.

Choose the active form!

Its biologically active form in your body is 5-methylfolate of glucosamine (or 5-mthf glucosamine).

For people with mutation of the MTHF enzyme gene or with an activity of this insufficient enzyme, it is interesting to opt for the active form, especially when used in preconception.

That's why NATURAMedicatrix proposes folic acid in its active form and therefore in the form 5-MTHF of glucosamine, at a rate of 400 μg per capsule in its dietary supplement Folic Activ '.

This active form of vitamin B9 has several advantages:

  • It is methylated and therefore directly usable by your body (fourfolic® patent)

  • It is 7x more bioavailable than folic acid.

  • It presents excellent assimilation and stability.

Beneficial effects

Low folate status during pregnancy is a risk factor for developing neural tube abnormalities in the developmental fetus. A vitamin B9 intake in the form of food supplement increases the status in folate of the mother, which is why she is always recommended in preconception and during the 1St trimester of pregnancy.

  • Indeed, vitamin B9 promotes the growth of maternal tissues (placenta, tits, uterus) during pregnancy.
  • She Also play a role in the cell division process.

Vitamin B9 is particularly advised at least one month before design and up to three months later. Ideally, it is even advisable to be supplemented 6 months before design (especially if oral contraceptive taking).

These benefits are confirmed by EFSA (EFSA Food Safety Authority), which still attributes other beneficial effects. It also intervenes in:

  • The reduction of fatigue.
  • The normal operation of the immune system.
  • Normal blood formation.
  • Normal psychological functions (relaxation) and normal metabolism of homocysteine.
  • TheNormal synthesis of amino acids that constitute proteins.

Food source

Folate food sources include legumes and livers (lamb, veal, beef, duck). Food yeast is also an excellent source of vitamin B9.
