Acacia, a tree with many uses
Acacia (Acacia senegal) is a tall tree that can reach up to 30 m in height and 50 cm in diameter. It grows quickly and can grow continuously in favorable conditions.
Its lifespan is nevertheless fairly short and usually ranges from 15 to 30 years. It is found mainly in coastal regions, below 300 m altitude, and up to a maximum of 800 m.
Acacia gum
Acacia gum is harvested after an incision is made in the trunk or at the base of the tree. One tree can yield from 20 g to 2 kg of gum.
It is therefore a completely natural ingredient, made mainly of fiber (90%) and polysaccharides.
It is a particularly interesting ingredient in several respects:
- Can be consumed by vegans, notably in certain fiber-enriched drinks such as Chi-Cafe

The applications of acacia gum are numerous.
It is used in food as a thickener, for example in sugared almonds.
In textiles, it can serve as a solidifying agent.
In construction, it is used as a waterproofing agent.

It can also be used to stick labels, stamps, or envelopes.
Acacia gum and dietary supplements
In dietary supplements, it is used as a clean excipient, instead of more controversial or even banned excipients such as titanium dioxide. It can, for example, be used to fill capsules.
